Board Job Descriptions
Executive Committee
President—The President is elected by the membership and serves for three consecutive years with a progression from President-elect to Past-President. The President presides at all Board, planning and membership meetings. The position provides oversight to chapter committees. The President acts as the chapter's liaison to AADE and keeps members informed of all local and national activities.
President-elect—The President-elect is elected by the membership and serves for three consecutive years with a progression from President-elect to Past-President. The President-elect will perform the duties of the President in the event of a vacancy or absence. The position oversees the educational committee to coordinate four membership educational meetings per year and serves as a contact person for sponsorship requests.
Secretary—The Secretary is elected by the membership and serves two years. The election for secretary occurs in odd numbered years. The secretary records the proceedings of all Board meetings and maintains all permanent records. The secretary completes Chapter correspondence and reports as required.
Treasurer—The Treasurer is elected by the membership and serves two years. The election for treasurer occurs in even numbered years. The Treasurer oversees the financial transactions of the chapter. The Treasurer keeps accurate records of the income and expenses. The position collects dues, prepares a budget and keeps all records in accordance to state and federal laws.
Permanent and Ad hoc Committees
Education—The Education committee coordinates the educational portion of the four general membership meetings. The Education Committee works with the accrediting organizations to obtain continuing education credits for the programs offered. The committee solicits feedback from the membership and assists the President in conducting an annual needs assessment.
Legislation—The Legislation committee serves the membership by keeping them informed of important legislative activities both locally and nationally.
Membership—The Membership committee greets current members and visitors at the general membership meeting. The committee is responsible for informing members of membership renewal requirements and for updating the directory.
Public Relations (Website)—The Public Relations committee facilitates proper communication between the membership and the Board (via the website/webmaster). The Public Relations committee regularly reviews the website for accuracy and relevance.
Audit (Ad hoc)—The Audit committee annually reviews the treasurer's reports and record keeping for compliance.
Awards (Ad hoc)—The Awards committee reviews nominations, selects judges, and provides the nominee's information to the judges. The judge's identities are kept confidential.
Bylaws (Ad hoc)—The Bylaws committee bi-annually reviews the chapter Bylaws for consistency with AADE Bylaws.
Nominating (Ad hoc)—The Nominating committee secures an annual ballot of qualified nominations for officers. The committee is responsible for sending the ballot and coordinating the tabulation. The committee is responsible for reporting the results.
Other volunteer activities—In addition to committee participation, members serve in liaison positions to other organizations such as the St. Louis Diabetes Coalition, the St. Louis Dietetic Association, local JDRF chapter, local ADA chapter(s) and the Missouri Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. Active Past-Presidents serve as historians.
